City University offers a Distance-Learning Course leading to the Postgraduate Certificate in Translation Skills, for graduate translators with work experience wishing to obtain an internationally recognised professional qualification.
The course lasts 2 years and consists of 6 modules, with examinations at the end of the 3rd and 6th modules. Teaching is by highly experienced and qualified tutors, with continuous assessment and comment via e-mail with the individual students.
The PGCTS is currently offered in translation from Spanish to English, principally in conjunction with partner institutions in South America, though other students who wish to offer this language combination may register directly with City University through the Course Coordinator (see below). Since 1998, this course has been successfully operating in conjunction with the Colegio de Traductores Publicos de Buenos Aires in Argentina, and City University has recently extended coverage to include Chile. We hope to expand to include Portuguese and other languages in the near future, and any enquiries in this respect should also be directed to the Course Coordinator.
Translators in Argentina and Uruguay who are interested in this Course should, in the first instance, contact the Colegio de Traductores Publicos de Buenos Aires, at cursos@traductores.org.ar.
Translators in Chile or anyone else who is interested in obtaining further information about the course should contact the Course Coordinator at City University, Sarah Hall at s.hall@city.ac.uk.
