Overview

This four-day course, a module from our Legal Translation MA, is offered here for continuining professional development. The course covers: key principles of financial law in England and Wales; document analysis; key legal principles and documentation in a foreign language; a discussion of the issues in translating financial law documents; translation of excerpts of financial texts.

What will I learn?

Key principles and terminology of financial law with a UK perspective:

  • Introduction to financial instruments and financial markets in Europe
  • Securities offering prospectuses and securities listings in the UK
  • Annual reports and risk reporting in the UK
  • Introduction to financial reporting principles in Europe and how these are implemented in the UK
  • Key financial reporting terms in English

 

Key principles and terminology of financial law from a French/German/Spanish perspective

  • Financial instruments, markets and associated terminology in France/Germany/Spain
  • Document analysis of financial instruments in French/German and Spanish
  • Securities offering prospectuses and securities listings in France/Germany/Spain
  • Annual reports and risk reporting in France/Germany/Spain
  • Implementation of financial reporting principles in France/Germany/Spain
  • Key financial reporting terms in French/German/Spanish

 

Translation of financial legal texts:

  • Discussion of issues in the translation of financial legal  documents
  • Translation of selection of following document types: investment contracts, financial instruments, issue prospectuses, listings applications, financial reports
