Ben Robinson
Ben Robinson

Community Volunteering Officer

"In nine months in the role, more than 600 students have registered on the volunteering website. 751 applications to volunteer have been made. Ben has empowered students to run their own volunteering projects, with initiatives like The Senior Citizens’ Venture further amplifying the benefits to our students and the community."

Mark SmithMark Smith
Student Experience Officer (Appeals, Complaints & Enhancement)

"Mark has done an absolutely excellent job in developing the University’s approach to new terms and conditions for our students. While this work might seem bureaucratic at initial glance, it actually underpins the relationship with our offer-holders and current students and therefore represents the face of the University."

Miriam Styrnol
Miriam Styrnol

Course Officer, School of Arts & Social Sciences

"Miriam wanted to use her skills and interest in data analysis to set herself an ambitious objective that could utilise student data to directly improve the student experience. Given the relatively high drop-out rate across SASS, she wanted to concentrate on student retention, and set out to create a data model that could analyse attendance data against student achievement. Six months later, following completion of a short course in statistical modelling, Miriam has successfully built a pilot data model that accurately predicts the chance of failing a module based on gradual decline in attendance. Her results were truly astounding, and the significance of the correlation means that the School has a very useful tool for intervening when student performance starts to dip."
