Fees and Finance

The University charges tuition fees for its courses. The fee varies between courses and between UK/EU and other students.

Funding your study

Students should consider carefully the cost of fees and maintenance at an early stage in the application process. There are no mandatory awards for postgraduate study. Funding sources, some of which are listed here, are limited. 

Postgraduate scholarships

City University London has a wide range of scholarship opportunities available for postgraduate students in the School of Arts, Cass Business School and School of Informatics.

Research Studentships

City University London offers a range of research studentships for students on full-time doctorate courses. The awards offer full tuition fee waiver plus a bursary for living costs each year. The deadlines for applications usually closes in March of each year, so early application is recommended.

Research Council Studentships

Research Councils may provide assistance for both UK and EU postgraduate students for some Masters courses. You will need to contact the relevant council for details about how to apply. and eligibility criteria. Early application is recommended.

Professional & Career Development Loans

If you are unable to get any student support from your Local Authority or any other funding to assist you with your studies, you may be eligible to apply for a Career Development Loan.

Access to Learning Funds

The government gives the University money, known as Access to Learning Funds, to distribute to students who are experiencing financial hardship. These funds can only be paid to UK students. Applications can be accepted once you are registered on a course at City.

Charities and trusts

Students requiring information about charities and trusts are advised to consult The Grants Register (MacMillan) and the Directory of Grant-Making Trusts (Charities Aid Foundation).

International students

A number of British Council scholarships are awarded via the British Council's representative in the applicant's country of origin. Further information is available on the British Council website or Education UK website.

Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are offered to students from more than 150 countries who wish to study in the UK at postgraduate level.
