Why Sociology at City?

  • We are one of the largest and well established sociology departments in London.  At undergraduate level we have developed distinctive degrees in Sociology, Criminology and Media and Communication studies. We also run joint programmes with the departments of Psychology and International Politics.
  • Our courses equip students with the knowledge and skills that are relevant to a range of professional careers including voluntary agencies, NGO’s, research, HR, public sector, academia and management.
  • By studying Sociology at City University, students will learn to analyse, write, assess, evaluate, synthesis and critique in a thoughtful and informed manner. They will learn to communicate, to argue rationally and to present and engage with staff and students.
  • Our core teaching staff take part in all our undergraduate courses and are able to bring their leading edge scholarship and research into their courses, and our central London location facilitates the study of  a ‘world city’ that is a centre of power and innovation, with diverse cultures, people and global connections.
  • The Department is housed in the modern School of Social Sciences building and sees itself as a closely knit community of academic staff, students and administrative staff.
