NHS finance & bursaries
NHS funded courses are available to UK Home and EU students who meet their residency requirements. The following courses at City are eligible for NHS funding:
- BSc in Midwifery
- BSc/PGDip in Nursing (all streams)
- BSc in Radiography
- BSc/PGDip in Speech and Language Therapy
Tuition Fees
NHS funding includes payment of your tuition fees directly to your University.
Maintenance Funding
Both undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible for funding listed in the table below:

*Please note the actual NHS bursary level will depend on the length of your course each year and household contributions are expected where the residual household income is £24,279 and above.
**The non-means tested maintenance loan is only available to undergraduate students. You will need to apply directly to Student Finance England for this loan each year.
Extra allowances
There is additional support for students with dependents and/or a disability as follows:
- Dependants' Allowances
- Parents Learning Allowance
- Child Care Grant - an amount towards Ofsted approved child care costs
- Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs) please contact our Learning Success office for support in applying for DSAs.
How do I apply?
Once you have accepted your offer, your department will confirm your details to the NHS Grants Unit who will contact you and invite you to apply online for a grant and bursary from the NHS.
Undergraduate students who wish to apply for the non-means tested maintenance loan can apply online through Student Finance England (SFE).
