We have a long tradition of academic excellence, dating back to our foundation in 1894. We are ranked 4th out of London universities and 21st in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2013, and are in the top 5% of global universities according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2011/12.
City University London staff and students are actively involved in pioneering research, which takes place in 60 research centres that bring together expertise in key areas. Our academics include some of the world's leading researchers, while around one third of City students are undertaking postgraduate degrees or research programmes.
Over 80% of our submitted research is recognised internationally, and the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) identified 15 areas of academic activity where our research was assessed as achieving world-leading quality in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
