How do I join the Union?

All students registered at City University automatically become members of the National Union of Students. If you do not wish to be a member, you can elect to opt out of Union membership by giving notice to the Academic Registrar and the Student Union General Manager.

 

   
What does it all cost?

Membership of the Union is freee of charge.  If you wish to buy an NUS Extra card which gives you a wide range of students discounts, this will cost £10.  For more details click here.

 

Most sports clubs and student societies make a small chanrge for membership.  The membership fee is decided by the student officers of the club or society.

 

Student social events will usually have a small entrance fee.

 

   
What kind of social events do you run?

The events team in the Students' Union runs a varied programme of parties, events and social activities over the course of the academic year.   Contact the events team via the Students' Union Main Office next to the main entrance of the University to find out more about what is going on each term.

 

   
What sports activities are available at City University?

We have over 20 sports clubs catering for a variety of different sporting interests from recreational first-timer to the full-time sports enthusiast. Contact the Student Sports & Activities Co-ordinator via the Students' Union Main office next to the main entrance of the University in Northampton square to find out more or email studentactivities@city.ac.uk

 

    

How do I join a club or society?

You can find all the information you need to know on how to join a club or society on the Students' Union website   You will need to be a registered user of the site to gain access to the forms, but don't worry if your not it's very quick and easy to register.  Or you can email the Student Activities Team at studentactivities@city.ac.uk   

   
What is the difference between the Student Centre and the Union Support Service (USS)? 

The Union Support Service has a very specific role in assisting students to raise issues and to lobby for improvements within courses, schools, and the University as a whole.  USS also supports students who may find themselves in dispute with the University, providing a confidential, professional service to help them make a complaint, representing them in disciplinary proceedings and helping them with academic appeals. USS also offers assistance where disputes or grievances arise between students.  

 

The Student Centre offers a range of advice on matters such as learning support, disability issues, housing, finance and fees, international student issues and general enquires about course registration procedures, employment and careers workshops and graduation ceremonies.
