Taught Programmes

The Department has grown rapidly in recent years and this is reflected in the range of teaching programmes that we are able to offer. We have a  thriving community of over 300 students on undergraduate, masters and doctoral programmes. 

Undergraduate Programmes

At the undergraduate level we offer the following programmes

• BSc Sociology
• BSc Criminology and Sociology
• BSc Media Studies and Sociology
• BSc Sociology with Psychology

In addition we offer a joint degree with the School of Engineering on internet-related technologies, BEng in Media Communication Systems

All postgraduate programmes may be pursued on either a full-time or a part-time basis.

MPhil/PhD Programme

For those students who wish to move beyond taught masters programmes the Department offers the opportunity to pursue PhD research on a wide range of core theoretical and empirical issues in sociology. We have a growing body of research students, with about 30 students engaged at any one point in the pursuit of their doctoral research. We particularly welcome applications from those wishing to study issues linked, though not exclusively so,  to our own scholarly interests. We have a thriving community of research students from all over the world and we provide full support for their training and supervision needs as well as a robust intellectual environment.
