MA Global Migration

image

Global migration is a key contemporary social phenomenon. The MA in Global Migration at City University London takes an inter-disciplinary approach drawing on sociology, law, politics, international relations, social policy, economics and anthropology. Students will be introduced to the local, national and regional impact of migration across the world. Theoretical explanations of the causes of different forms of migration –‘refugee’, ‘forced’ and ‘free’ – and responses to migrants and their settlement patterns form a significant component of the course.

This course is particularly relevant to those with personal experience of migration as well as those who either work or would like a career working for statutory, NGO or community-based organisations that work with migrants.

The Department of Sociology has a strong concentration on issues linked to race and ethnicity, global migration, refugee studies and human rights. These areas of specialism provide a focus for the work of the Centre on Race, Ethnicity and Migration (CREM). The Department also houses the Information Centre about Asylum and Refugees in the UK (ICAR) , and the course provides some students with an opportunity to undertake an internship at  ICAR.
