Victimology

This module enables you to examine the way that victims are dealt with within the wider context of sociology and more specifically criminology.

You will develop an understanding of the sociological concept of victim both historically and currently as well as the phenomenon of their status within the criminal justice system.

You will be encouraged to consider the response of the criminal justice system to victims as well as assess the wider roles of the family, the school, the media and the community in creating the complex relationships which support and create "victims" of crime.
