This module aims to help you understand the issues, actors and solutions that drive the security agenda in various parts of the world in the 21st century.
You will examine the various meanings of “security” using a number of conceptual tools including political realism, critical security studies, human security and feminist understandings of security.
You will explore issues such as ethnic conflict, failed states, resource wars, and the “war on terror” and will study actors ranging from NGOs to private security companies and individuals, reflecting on the role each plays in tackling certain issue areas in particular regions of the world.
