The transformation of international politics since the Peace of Westphalia

This module aims to provide you with a path-breaking survey of the major developments that have helped to transform international politics since the Peace of Westphalia in 1648.

Breaking with the state-centric and chronological approach of traditional courses on the history of international politics, this module examines the transformation of key themes that have shaped the nature of international politics over the past half millennium.

The module will assess the historical evolution of a broad array of topics such as: globalization and fragmentation, warfare and peacemaking, empire-building and decolonization, ideology and revolution, international law, international non-governmental organizations, global corporations, and international trade and finance.
