The politics of forced displacement & resettlement

The politics of forced displacement & resettlement

In this module you will examine the political, economic, social, environmental and cultural causes and consequences of forced population displacement and resettlement.

Conceptually, the processes of change will be examined in terms of social transformation and from a political-economy perspective.

Displacement events are compartmentalised in the literature between development-created, state or politically-induced displacement, and displacement resulting from conflict or environmental crises.

You will examine each of these domains, but will also seek to find commonalities in the causes and consequences of such seemingly disparate phenomena.

You will also consider the legal and policy frameworks for addressing the problem.
