Research design and analysis (laboratory methods)

This module introduces you to basic principles of experimental methodology in psychology, enabling you to:

• understand a range of experimental designs and procedural techniques; 
• distinguish between experimental and non-experimental studies; 
• design an experiment;
• learn how to carry out an experimental study by participating in a series of practical class experiments; 
• select appropriate statistical techniques to describe and analyse data in a practical research situation; 
• interpret the outcomes of statistical analyses in a practical context; 
• develop a clear scientific writing style through the production of written reports; 
• critically evaluate studies in terms of design, procedure and analysis;
• gain familiarity with the use of computers for experimentation.
