Research design and analysis (laboratory methods)
This module introduces you to basic principles of experimental methodology in psychology, enabling you to:
- understand a range of experimental designs and procedural techniques;
- distinguish between experimental and non-experimental studies;
- design an experiment;
- learn how to carry out an experimental study by participating in a series of practical class experiments;
- select appropriate statistical techniques to describe and analyse data in a practical research situation;
- interpret the outcomes of statistical analyses in a practical context;
- develop a clear scientific writing style through the production of written reports;
- critically evaluate studies in terms of design, procedure and analysis;
- gain familiarity with the use of computers for experimentation.
