The module will provide you with an advanced overview of the international politics of the modern Middle East. It aims to furnish you with a critical understanding of the key dynamics shaping the international politics of the region since 1918, focusing on processes of state formation, the foreign policy of key states, conflict, and the impact of globalization.
Themes covered will include the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the emergence of the modern Middle East state system; the foreign policies of Iran, Saudi-Arabia, Egypt and Israel; conflict in Israel-Palestine and in the Gulf; and the impact of globalization.
