Global politics of human rights

In this module you will explore the contested nature of the human rights project in the context of globalisation.

We consider key theoretical debates in human rights and link theory to practice through case studies of global human rights controversies.

The module is structured around four questions:

• are human rights universal?
• are they individual or collective?
• who is the subject of human rights?
• who contests the definition and practice of human rights, and how?
