Global financial markets

This module will enable you to develop a coherent theoretical understanding of the nature and functions of the financial system in the economy.

The course is centred around the US, UK, Japanese and German financial systems, comparing their characteristics and relative merits.

The overall objective of the module is to familiarise you with the key issues that relate to financial markets and the range of financial instruments available on such markets. You will look at the use of debt and equity markets as a means of obtaining finance.

The final part of the module looks at derivative instruments such as futures and options and explains how these instruments can be used by to manage financial risks.
