Current issues in sociology

This module offers a substantive exploration of a range of contemporary debates and controversies in sociology.

You will examine the contributions of key thinkers to the analysis of social class, gender, sexuality, race, migration, education, work and other topical issues.

In this way, the module introduces you to diverse theoretical and methodological frameworks used by sociologists today. It equips you to analyse and critique different approaches to current sociological issues.

The module will familiarise you with the multiple ways of researching and thinking about a social process, institution or phenomenon. You will gain an understanding of the implications of these debates for research strategies and theorising.
