Contemporary issues in global politics

This module introduces you to major developments in international politics during the 20th century. You will start with an overview of approaches to studying historical developments in international politics.

We then guide you through major 20th century developments, including the origins of two World Wars, the Cold War, decolonisation, conflict in the Middle East, and the evolution of globalisation.

We will emphasise that each of these developments involve politics within countries, between countries and at the transnational level. In each case, you will compare a state-centric strategic analysis with analysis of a diversity of actors and issues.
