Research
Our research clusters around three areas:
- global political economy, global governance and development
- policymaking and diplomacy
- war, insecurity and conflict.
We pursue this research across a range of issue areas such as financial governance, global health, migration, and security sector reform, and across a number of regions and countries such as the United States, the Middle East and Africa. We integrate theoretical and conceptual research with empirical research into particularly contemporary international events and processes.
We regularly host research seminars and workshops. Recent events have included a one-day seminar on 'Africa Agency' and an innovative one-day workshop on global political economy and global health.
In recent years staff in the department have produced a considerable number of highly-regarded books and published in top-ranked politics and international politics journals. We also engage with global policymaking; we have established a policy brief series (see below), and staff have been engaged with institutions such as the European Union, the World Bank and governments.
Work with us
We welcome collaborators, research partners and research students who would like to work with us on these and other issues of International Politics. We offer excellent facilities for visiting scholars and researchers. We also provide support for scholarship applications for PhD study at City.
If you would like to find out more information about becoming a visiting fellow with City, please contact our Head of Department, Dr David Williams.
