School of Social Sciences
The School of Social Sciences is one of seven highly regarded academic schools within the university. Housed in a landmark building built in 2004 it brings together over 2500 staff and students. The school is made up of four academic departments:

International Politics lecturer Dr Sophie Harman was at the Global Poverty Summit in Johannesburg, 17 -19 January 2011, along with such figures as Nobel economics laureate Professor Joseph Stiglitz and Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi, secretary-general of the UN Conference on Trade and Development.
