TRYATEC is a try-before-you-buy service that lets you experience the latest technology.
Briefly explain your business/business concept and the problem it aims to solve:
TRYATEC is a try-before-you-buy service that lets you experience the latest technology without breaking the bank. Using the principles of the sharing and the experience economies, we provide an online platform to rent out the latest tech gadgets, such as drones, DSLRs and fitness trackers. TRYATEC combats the necessity to make high investments into technological gadgets in order to be able to experience them.
How did you come up with this idea?
After experiencing the problem of gaining affordable access to DSLR cameras first-hand, Sabine conceptualised a business for renting out cameras, which she presented at the CityStarters weekend. A few months later, we worked on this idea as part of our MSc Marketing Strategy and Innovation term project. The outcome was a business named TRYATEC, a co-founder Elena joining Sabine, and a business renting out all types of tech gadgets, in order to keep up with the latest trends.
What stage is your business currently at, and what are your plans moving forward?
We are currently in our pre-launch stage, working to finalise our website and secure the perfect gadgets for our customers to soon be able to have the best technological experiences. Within the next few months, we will launch an online rental platform where quality tech experiences will soon be affordable.
What do you feel are your three biggest successes with your business so far?
A few key successes while we develop our business:
- We were happy to be shortlisted as one of the four finalists for the Inspiring Innovator of the Year Award, hosted by private bank Arbuthnot Latham (see the picture of us at the event below, chatting with Caffe Nero's founder).
- We tested our concept with the public and were pleased to see such a positive reaction at an early stage! For example, we received a great response when we were featured in the Secret London’s Blog post.
- We secured office space at City Launch Lab with a great environment to develop our business, home to leading video ad tech company Unruly. We did this through CitySpark, where all City students have a chance to apply.
