James studied for a BSc through the Professional Pathway (PP) scheme, which allows students to transfer to relevant fourday-a-week employment after a period of study and complete their degree by a combination of day-release and e-learning. The scheme gave James both the skills and freedom he needed to launch Weavee.
Weavee acts as a central repository for IT graduate recruitment and allows graduates to showcase their skills. What started as an idea for a social network soon pivoted into a recruitment ecosystem. The site also includes a personality test and a suite of tools. James said,
Weavee solves a skills gap with a real-time matching algorithm; it’s great for finding out what you’re really cut out to do with your career.
With a strong business model in place, James is now preparing to launch a round of public fundraising for Weavee. James believes it has the potential to shake up the recruitment industry. “It’s going to be a big disruptor; I’m hoping people will use it on a daily basis. For now it’s focused on London IT graduates, but it can certainly go international as the content is all scalable.”
“Recruitment agencies know you better than the government does, in terms of the amount of data they hold about you,” says James. “But Weavee keeps all your data in one place and ensures that you have ownership. It allows you to say: ‘here’s what I can do, come and have a look’.”
