About

Background

Dr Youyou Yan graduated with BEng and MSc in Fluid Mechanics from Tsinghua University, Beijing. She was awarded PhD in Experimental Fluid Mechanics by Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. After working in University of Oxford and University of Bath, she joined City University London as a Senior Experimental Officer in July 2001. She is currently a senior lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and serves as the Senior Tutor for research students in engineering in the School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering.

Research

Dr Yan has research interests in experimental fluid mechanics and heat transfer using liquid crystal thermography, laser based diagnostics and high speed imaging techniques. The experimental techniques have been applied to study: boiling heat transfer, heat transfer enhancement by sliding bubbles, heat transfer in pre-swirl cooling systems, fuel spray characterisation, fuel mixture in gasoline direct injection engines and piston ring lubrication in automotive engines.
