Overview
Svenja is the Head of Languages at City, University of London and lecturer for German.
She is a linguist and academic course manager who has extensive experience in teaching German in higher education.
Her remit includes academic management, course & assessment coordination, programme and course development, and delivery of German courses at all levels.
Svenja joined City as a Visiting Lecturer in 1998 while working at various universities and colleges in London and has held the position of Head of Languages since 2014. Prior to that she also worked as the exam and assessment coordinator at City’s Centre for Language Studies.
Svenja teaches German for Business courses and German for Media courses within the Specific Purposes Programme. She has also taught on the University's language evening programme.
Svenja holds an MA in Slavic Studies from the Free University of Berlin in Germany. She also studied Russian as a foreign language at the University of St. Petersburg and the Institute for Railway Engineering in Moscow. She has been trained as a language tutor and holds a Cambridge Certificate of Teaching German to Adults.
Her research interests are primarily the summative and formative assessment of foreign language skills with focus on the effectiveness of testing/ developing language skills online. Other research interests include Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies.
