Overview
Sonali qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and went on to become a partner in a local law firm. She specialised in property law but was also keen to develop the firm's civil litigation department in the field of family and employment law. Sonali has also undertaken pro bono work for various voluntary organisations including the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Acton Law Shop. It was during this earlier stage in her legal career that Sonali was introduced to teaching and taught various modules on the ILEX course and Law Access course.
Sonali is a senior lecturer on the Solicitors Practice Course ('SPP'), where she teaches a range of subjects including (amongst others) Property Law and Legal Written Skills. She is the module leader for Family Law elective on the SPP course. Sonali is also a LLM dissertation supervisor and teaches on the LLB in Legal Practice apprenticeship course.
Sonali has previously been awarded The City Law School Award for Excellence based on student feedback and has been recognised by the Student Union (Student Impact Award 2020-21) for the student support she provided during the pandemic.
Sonali holds a Masters in Law (LLM), and is a member of the Law Society (non-practising solicitor). She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and as Associate Member of Resolution (Family Justice Professionals). Sonali has been an external examiner at BPP and is currently an external examiner at King's College, University of London.
