About

Background

Ann McFerran is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Journalism, where she teaches on the Newspaper Journalism MA and the Creative Writing (Narrative Nonfiction) MA.

She has been a journalist for over 35 years writing mostly for the Sunday Times, but also for the Telegraph, Guardian, Independent, Daily Mail, Marie Claire and various other newspapers and magazines.

She has helped pioneer the use of the first person piece in major news stories, often with a human rights dimension, from the London bombings to post-conflict/disaster stories. In 2003 she won the Amnesty International award for magazine journalist of the year.
