The Olive Tree Middle East Forum

The Olive Tree Middle East Forum

For decades the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been a source of contention and fascination for people outside the Middle East as well as on the spot. Thus it is not only the Israelis and Palestinians who receive scholarships under the Olive Tree Programme, but also other students and staff at the university, who want to debate issues surrounding the conflict.

Also, since the eruption of popular demonstrations and revolts against corruption and oppression in one Arab country after another, the politics of the MIddle East are a source of great interest and some dispute for many people in and around London.

The Olive Tree Middle East Forum is City University's response to the thirst for more knowledge and urge to debate developments in the region. The format of the forum is designed to enable exploration behind the media headlines and to deepen understanding of complex issues, rather than score points.

In academic year 2010-2011 the forum convened five times to discuss the topics listed below:

The forum is open to all students and staff at City University as well as the media and guests from outside the University. If you would like to register for notification of future forum meetings, please email olivetree@city.ac.uk.
