City backs Time to Change pledge to challenge mental health prejudices
City showed its support for mental health charity, MIND’s campaign to end discrimination against those with mental health problems, at Islington Town Hall last week.
The Time to Change campaign, run by MIND and Rethink, raises awareness and fights the prejudice and stigma attached to mental illness.
City’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julius Weinberg signed the Time to Change pledge on behalf of the University. Professor Sally Hardy, Head of Mental Health and Learning Disabilities was at the event which included representatives from Arsenal FC, NHS Islington and Homes for Islington.
It is estimated that 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health issue in our lifetime, but despite this there is still a stigma and ignorance attached to it. The stress and strains of modern living affects not only our bodies but also our minds. The challenge, as outlined in the New Horizons Department of Health strategy for mental health, is to recognise the impact that modern society has on us.
By supporting the movement, City is helping to promote better understanding of mental health.
