The Learning Development Centre (LDC) is running a series of seminars suitable for all staff and students interested in research. This Research Seminar Series will run every few weeks at lunchtime, and the series begins on the 6th October from 12pm to 2.30pm with a session on ‘Sources of Research Funding’.
In this seminar participants will be introduced to ways of identifying funding for research projects, with specific reference to the City context. Advantages and disadvantages of obtaining funding from various sources will be discussed.
This first session will be run by Professor Dinos Arcoumanis, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and International), who has a wealth of knowledge on research and sources of research funding. Professor Arcomanis is a Fellow of the UK Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the International Society of Automotive Engineers and was elected to the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2001. In 2009 he received an honorary doctorate degree from St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University of Russia. He is author and co-author of more than 200 publications and has recently edited and co-authored a Springer-Verlag monograph on "Flow and Combustion in Automotive Engines”.
Other upcoming sessions this month will be on Developing Successful Research Proposals, which will run on the 15th October 2009 by Dr Pam Parker, and a Workshop on Research Proposals to be run on the 27th October 2009 by Uma Patel.
