Students celebrate at City’s 2017 summer graduations

Students from City’s five Schools will graduate and three esteemed individuals will receive honorary degrees

by Nicola Ranson (Communications Officer)

City will celebrate the graduation of more than 3,500 students this week, during three days of ceremonies at the Barbican, in the heart of the City of London. Students from City’s five Schools will be rewarded for their hard work and achievements and three distinguished individuals will receive honorary degrees.

Every year, City awards honorary degrees to people who have made a significant contribution within their field of expertise and who act as role models for City students. This summer, Honorary Graduates include Luis Juste, former Director of Santander Universities; Professor Wilson Sibbett, Emeritus Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of St Andrews; and Caroline Wyatt, BBC Journalist. The honorary graduates deliver speeches during their respective ceremonies, sharing their experiences and offering advice to City graduands.

President Professor Sir Paul Curran said:

Graduation is a high point of the academic year and a proud moment of celebration for City. It is a chance for staff, students and their families and friends to celebrate the hard work and dedication that goes in to completing a degree. They join the community of more than 135,000 alumni across the world who are forever connected to us in London. The friendships forged here at City extend beyond borders and are bound by memories of time spent in our great city. It is also a great privilege to award honorary degrees to three distinguished individuals and to welcome them as members of City. I congratulate all those graduating or receiving honorary doctorates.

The ceremonies will be streamed live online at www.city.ac.uk/graduation. Follow the action on City’s official social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you are graduating this week, please share your pictures and memories, using the hashtag #CityGrad.
