City engineering academics launch new book on photonics

At 4th September event, Professor B.M. Azizur Rahman and Dr Arti Agrawal introduced a new textbook applying Finite Element Modelling (FEM) approaches and techniques which characterise photonic devices.

Professor B.M. Azizur Rahman and Dr Arti Agrawal launched their book, Finite Element Modeling Methods for Photonics (Artech House), on 4th September in the Convocation Suite.

nullThe evening event featured congratulatory remarks from Professor Roger Crouch, Dean of the School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and the School of Informatics.

Professor Richard De La Rue, Professor of Optoelectronics at the University of Glasgow, was also present to commend the two authors. Dr Agrawal says she was pleased with the launch and hopes that it will be of value to students and researchers:

"Starting with the workshop on plasmonics earlier in the day where we were exposed to the work of world leaders in the field, to the launch of the book that evening, the 4th September was a tremendously exciting day. Professor Rahman and I wrote the book for the photonics community. The book would have fulfilled its purpose if graduate students researchers find it useful for their work."
