International law firms offer internships to City students
Three global law firms have partnered City University London to offer students taking the LLM in International Commercial Law the opportunity to apply for a trio of sought after internships. The prizes provided by Shearman & Sterling LLP, Sidley Austin LLP and Stibbe will be awarded based on the submission of an essay and a subsequent interview.
Professor Alan Riley, Director of the LLM Programme at The City Law School, City University London commented: "We are delighted to work with such major, cutting edge international legal practices. The internships give the winning students the opportunity to blend the knowledge that he or she develops on our International Commercial Law LLM courses with first-rate practical commercial experience at some of the world's top law firms. Each of the successful students will gain invaluable insight into modern practice at the highest level".
Shearman & Sterling LLP has been advising many of the world's leading corporations and financial institutions, governments and governmental organizations for more than 135 years. The firm are offering a three month internship with their Brussels office, a major international antitrust practice. Students on the LLM Commercial Law programme and those taking the International Cartels, Antitrust Law in a Global Context and Substantive EU Competition Law courses in the first term will be eligible to apply.
Sidley Austin LLP has renewed its International Commercial Law Internship at The City Law School for 2013. Sidley Austin is one of the world's largest law firms with over 1,700 lawyers and 18 offices in North America, Europe and Asia. Students taking International Cartels, Substantive EU Competition Law, Antitrust in a Global Context or World Trade will be invited to compete for the internship, which will take place in Brussels over the summer.
Stibbe, an internationally orientated law firm with Benelux roots, will offer a student from The City Law School a placement with its EU and Competition Law practice group based in Amsterdam. Stibbe lawyers have assisted clients in landmark cases in various jurisdictions including the EU, the United States, Canada and Australia, and are recommended in numerous publications. The winning student from the International Cartels course at City will have the opportunity to engage with Stibbe's extensive antitrust practice during the three month programme. A full scholarship is provided amounting to €4500 plus housing and use of a bicycle.
