What's on

Your first week at City will be filled with events, talks and activities to ensure that your introduction to university life is as smooth as possible. Below are some of the highlight events that you can attend during your first week.

Every day during Welcome Week

Time Activity Venue
10:00 - 16:00 Campus Tours: Student Ambassadors will lead campus tours every 20 minutes throughout Welcome Week to help you get your bearing at City. Tours last for 30 minutes, no need to book, just turn up and join the next group. Northampton Square (Meet at the bandstand)
Various times Free fitness and wellbeing class: CitySport’s fitness and wellbeing classes, including BoxFit, Zumba or Yoga are free to all City student during Welcome Week. Check out the class timetables and arrive early to the classes. Subject to availability on a first-come-first-serve basis. Studio 1-5, CitySport
Various times Gym inductions: CitySport will be holding 30 minute group gym inductions. This induction will introduce you to the top of the range equipment at CitySport and how to use it safely and efficiently. The induction will include a ten minute functional class.

13:00 - 15:00 What They Don't Tell You: Find out what it’s really like to study at City and all the things they don’t tell you before you arrive from those who know best - your Students' Union Officers and returning City students. C310
17:00 - 19:00 Off Campus On Campus: Live in London, but commute in from further afield? The Students' Union is bringing those who live off campus all together on campus, to meet Freshers experiencing City life in the same way. We’ll also be launching our project of community meet-ups that are happening throughout semester one. CityBar
17:00 - 19:00 International students welcome reception (for international students only): Celebrate your arrival at City, meet our staff and fellow international students. Whilst enjoying drinks and canapés, you will be formally welcomed by the Lord Mayor of London and the President of City, University of London. Coaches to Mansion House will depart from the entrance of College Building on St John Street at 16:00. 19:00 - 23:00 Ping Pong Party: A ping pong party like no other, join the Students' Union for ping pong games, social tournaments and beer pong games throughout the evening. CityBar
19:30 - 21:30 Basketball Club: Experience what it is like to attend a basketball practice at City. Meet and play against current members of City Men’s Basketball team. Learn about the team, have fun and play basketball.

16:00 - 18:00 Dodgeball: Meet new friends while taking part in this fun sporting activity that is always very popular.

22:00 - 03:00 SNEAK: London’s biggest house night returns for the academic year, hosting some of the circuit’s biggest DJs. Last year, SNEAK played host to DJ SKT, Danny Howard and Blonde, alongside their resident DJs, and this year’s line up can only be bigger!

Tier 4: Everything You Need To Know (for international students only): If you hold a Tier 4 visa there are many things you need to know to ensure you do not accidentally break the rules, and that you study and travel safely during your time here. This session will ensure you know what you can and can’t do so you can concentrate on enjoying your studies in the UK.

Chaplaincy London tour : Join the Chaplaincy Team for a tour of some of London’s iconic places of worship, highlighting the diverse culture that this vibrant City has to offer.  We begin at the Central London Synagogue, then travel to East London Mosque, before ending our tour at St Paul’s Cathedral. Email chaplaincy@city.ac.uk to reserve a place.

We meet in the reception area of the Oliver Thompson Lecture Theatre. Please bring your own lunch.
14:00 - 18:00 Last Person Standing: Jump and duck the moving sweeper as you compete against each other to remain the last one standing, giving you the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

To celebrate, City Students' Union are hosting an open day for all City students, where you can discover everything your membership includes - with tours, tasters, special offers, and the chance to pick up your free University of London membership card.
