The Law Library at Northampton Square occupies the whole of Level 4 in the University Library. Here you can find the Law collections (including textbooks, journals, statutes, law reports and many other legal reference tools and encyclopedias). Also on the floor is a small computer lab (where law students can book a computer for a 2 hour slot), and the Law Librarian's office.

 

Law students and staff may borrow books from the Library at Northampton Square and refer to the available journals.

Where to start......

Books

Books are arranged on the library shelves by, what is known as, the Dewey Decimal Classification System. Basically, this means that a topic is given a specific classification number and all books written on that topic will be shelved under that number. The Dewey Decimal System is very specific, however, which means that topics relating to Law may have varying classification numbers and be placed on different shelves. Click here to see where books on topics relating to Law subjects are located at Northampton Square.

Databases

Databases can be used to search for information on any topic you may be researching.  This information is usually in the form of journal articles but can also be in the form of book chapters, conference proceedings, government papers etc.  Click here to see what databases you can use for your research.

Journals

Journals are collections of articles usually written by scholars in an academic or professional field.  Journal articles are an excellent resource for finding information on very specific topics or narrow fields of research.  Many journals are now available online, these are known as E-journals.  Click here to see what  journals related to Law are held in the Library at Northampton Square.

There is a vast amount of information available on the Internet, not all of which provides reliable information. Click here to gain access  to reliable websites which cover topics relating to Law.
