Events

The department organises a number of research seminars, and events for the general public. In addition, we host national and international conferences, and you will find further details on this page and by following the links on the left.

Our research seminars are held on Thursday afternoons, and speakers for the spring term include Prof Debbie Sell (Great Ormond Street Hopsital, UCL and City University London) and Dr Elise de Bree (University of Utrecht). There is no need to book a place at our seminars - they are free of charge, and all are welcome.

Every March we organise an event as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science. The programme for 18th March 2010 is entitled "Language assessment of children: challenges, and new directions", and will feature talks by Dr Ros Herman (City University London), Dr Penny Roy (City University London) and Prof Li Wei (Birkbeck, University of London), as well as a discussion with the audience.

We are thrilled to be hosting the Child Language Seminar (CLS) in June 2010. The CLS  is an interdisciplinary conference attracting a diverse audience of, among others, psychologists, linguists and speech and language therapists. It provides a forum for research on first and second language acquisition in typically and atypically developing children. Keynote speakers include Prof Sue Gathercole (University of York) and Dr Simon Fisher (University of Oxford). **Registration is now open - please click here**.

From 31st August to 2nd September LCS will be hosting the first Clinical Education Conference. This conference will meet the needs of speech and language therapists - researchers, practitioners and educators - involved in the development of high quality clinical practice and education. Keynote speakers include Dr Maggie Lee Huckabee (University of Canterbury) and Dr Susan Block (LaTrobe University).
