Lincoln's Inn Mooting Competition - All City Final!

The City Law School has triumphed in Lincoln’s Inn Mooting competition. City dominated the semi-finals with seven out of the eight competitors being City students. Current Graduate Diploma in Law students, Anita Rao and Leo Meredith, beat a BPP team to win their place in the final. They will be joined by Hashi Mohamed and Richard Anderton who are currently studying the Bar Vocational Course at City.

 

Hashi said: “We're very happy to be in the final, and that we get to dine at the top table on the evening. We will give it all we have and, of course, aim to win!”

 

The duos are set to do battle on Thursday 4th March – whatever the outcome it’s a victory for City.   

Professor Alan Riley CNBC Guest Appearance

City Law School's Professor Alan Riley made a guest appearance as a expert analyst on the leading US business news channel, CNBC.  In a segment entitled Russia Looks to Future Tech , Professor Alan Riley commented exclusively on the role of telecoms and information technology in Russia's future economy.

NEW: January Entry 'Hammock LLM'

The City Law School has launched a January entry LLM in International Commercial Law. This is a 'Hammock LLM': This new option allows students to take two LLM modules in the January to April term. This is followed by a 20,000 word dissertation in the summer term. Finally, in following autumn term, students take the two remaining modules required for the award of LLM before graduating in the following January.

Courses running in January 2010 include Mergers, Comparative antitrust, Maritime Insurance, International Sales, Project Finance, International Corporate Finance, Data Protection and Not Cartels- Permitted Commercial Transactions


Our final closing date for applications for the January entry date is Monday 18th January 2010. Term begins on Monday 25th January. We advise all intending students to apply as early as possible for the January LLM entry.

LLM places increased by 20 for 2009/10 in-take

LLM Programme Director Professor Alan Riley confirms that due to an increased flow of high quality LLM applications The City Law School has decided to increase the number of LLM places available by 20 for September 2009. The final deadline for acceptance of LLM applications for September 2009 entry will be Monday 28th September 2009.

 

Professor Alan Riley said “we are increasing the number of places this year because we are still receiving a significant number of very good quality applications. Given the impressive nature of some of the applications we are receiving we would like to put ourselves in a position that we could take them on to the LLM Programme. That is why I approached the Dean of the Law School, Professor Susan Nash, to obtain permission to increase the numbers and ensure we had the resources in place for those extra students”.

NEW: LLM courses in Civil Procedure and Media Law

The LLM in International Commercial Law programme will offer approximately 30 courses in 2009/10 ranging from international tax through banking and corporate finance through to media law, arbitration and competition to maritime law.

 

New courses for this year will include Civil Procedure led by Professor Adrian Zuckerman and Media Law led by Professor Lorna Woods.

 

City will continue to offer three specialists Masters degrees in International Competition Law; Maritime Law and International Dispute Resolution, as well as specialisation in the aforementioned areas and Banking and Finance.

 

Uniquely amongst LLM programmes City is able to offer competitive internships with major law firms such as Howrey, Sidelys, O’Melveny & Myers, Hausfeld and Thomas Cooper.

LLM/M.Jur in International Commercial Law moves to Gray's Inn Place for September 2009!


From September 2009 the LLM/M.Jur in Commercial Law will be based at the Law School's Gray's Inn Campus where for more than half a millennia the law has been practiced and taught. LLM students will benefit from modern teaching accommodation in an exceptional setting, as well as proximity to Holborn and Chancery Lane Tube Stations.

LLM in Maritime Law (Greece)

The City Law School is pleased to offer students the opportunity to take this exceptional Maritime Law course in Athens from March 2009.

 

The course content, qualification and teaching staff are the same as those for the UK course, but students in Athens will study each module in weekend blocks, allowing them to fit their study around work, family or other commitments.

M.Jur

From September 2009 The City Law School, City University London will be offering a taught two year Masters in Law, the M.Jur.


Students will be able for instance to major in competition law and international tax by potentially taking five courses in competition law, a dissertation in competition law, whilst also taking two courses in tax and a dissertation in international tax. As a consequence students will gain both a broad and deep knowledge of two or more major fields of commercial law, making them more attractive to major international law firms.
