    Our LLB gives you a foundation in the essential skills and knowledge needed to be succesful in law. If you are an aspiring solicitor or barrister, our LLB degree provides you with the core legal knowledge to go on to either the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course. If law isn't the career for you, our LLB gives you a range of transferrable skills to go on to be successful in your chosen career.

    Why the City LLB (Hons)?

    Content   


    Year One & Year Two

    You will study the core legal subjects that are common to most undergraduate law degrees.


    The core subjects are:

     

    • Constitutional & Administrative Law
    • Contract Law
    • Criminal Law
    • Equity & Trusts
    • European Community Law
    • Land Law
    • Tort Law


    In addition to the core legal subjects, your first year will also include:

    • An introduction to legal techniques
    • An introduction to key issues in the organisation of a legal system
    • An introduction mooting (preparation and delivery of a hypothetical legal argument)

     

    Year Three

    In the third year you can choose six subjects from a range of over 20 elective subjects, including:

    • Issues in International Human Rights Law

    You also have the option of completing a 12,500  word written dissertation in place of an elective subject.



    Teaching   

    Traditional lectures, seminars and tutorials are the main teaching methods on the course. You will learn about law as part of a larger groups in lectures alongside your fellow students. Regular tutorials allow you to meet with your subject tutor, as part of a small group to analyse problems and selected topics. Seminars enable you to discuss assigned materials as part of a larger group.

     

    We also encourage our students to take part in activities such as debating and mooting (a legal debate). Combined with your legal studies these activities help you to develop a broad range of skills and builds your self confidence.  


    Assessment   

    Written examinations held at the end of each module are the main form of assessment. Formative coursework and mock examinations given throughout the year will prepare you for these examinations.

     

    Opportunities   

    Study Abroad

    The City Law School has established student exchange programmes with Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia and Montesquieu University, Bordeaux, France, and we also offer exchanges in Poland, Toulouse, and Barcelona. The arrangement provides an opportunity for LLB students to spend half of their third year studying a range of courses in one of these universities. Please note, the teaching in Bordeaux is in French.


    Mooting

    At The City Law School you will have numerous opportunites to take part in mooting (legal debating) in the school and at national competitions.


    Pro Bono

    Our Pro Bono Advice Unit gives you the opportunity to advise real clients.

     

    Futures   

    Our LLB (Hons) satisfies the entry requirements for the Legal Practice Course (if you are an aspiring solicitor) and the Bar Professional Training Course (if you are an aspiring barrister). The course also gives you a variety of transferrable skills that can be applied to careers outside of law.
