The City Law School frequently hosts professional development conferences in its state of the art venue in Gray’s Inn.
The City Law School has successfully hosted its first-ever international conference on ‘Practising Law’, bringing together lawyers and academics from as far afield as South Africa, the US, Israel and Australia.
The three-day conference, which began on Thursday 15th July with dinner in the historic Inner Temple, featured an array of presentations and debates on the latest issues affecting the legal sector, including class actions, the art of advocacy, professional education and child witness cross-examination practices.
The conference also saw a presentation on The Legal Services Act by Sir Geoffrey Nice QC, of Temple Garden Chambers, who previously spent seven years prosecuting for the UN in The Hague. During his time there, Sir Geoffrey was heavily involved in the prosecution of former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, the notorious war criminal who died in his cell in 2000 awaiting trial for crimes against humanity.
Other attendees included David Hobart, Chief Executive of the Bar Council, and various private practitioners from Europe, including the UK and Israel.
The conference, which took place at The City Law School in Gray’s Inn, was hosted by Professor Penny Cooper, Barrister, Associate Dean and Director of CPD and Director of Knowledge Transfer.
Commenting on the event, Penny Cooper said: “We were delighted to host this conference, which marked a rare opportunity for us to bring academic and legal practitioners together to share their different perspectives on the UK legal sector and to exchange both knowledge and skills. The feedback we have had so far has been extremely positive and we very much look forward to hosting the next one.”

The City Law School is to work with the ESCP-EAP European School of Management to deliver part of the MS in Law and International Management to students from the Paris-based institution.
The MS in Law and International Management is a programme designed specifically for lawyers who want to learn how to interact with management in a more strategic way. The well-established programme is supported by an advisory committee made up of practising lawyers in private practice and in-house heads of legal departments.
Students on the ESCP-EAP MS in Law and International Management will spend one month in London at The City Law School, where they will gain an insight into English law as part of their course.
