Omer Elagab

Omer Yousif Elagab, BA(CNAA), LLM (London), DPhil (Oxon), Advocate, Reader in Law

Prior to joining City University in 1990, Omer Elagab lectured at a number of other universities and undertook research in international law at the University of Oxford for which he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 1986.

His book on The Legality of Non-Forcible Counter Measures in International Law (1988) is recognised as the leading work of authority in its field, and is frequently cited by the International Law Commission in its reports on State Responsibility, and in the state practice of Canada and the United States.
He is also one of the authors of The Reality of International Law: Essays in Honour of Ian Brownlie (1999). His main interests are international law, EC law, conflict of laws and Islamic law.
