Lawrence Pickett
Lawrence Pickett, MA, Barrister, Principal Lecturer
Joined The City Law School (formerly the Inns of Court School of Law) in 1979.
After a brief period in an alternative career, Lawrence Pickett gained a law degree and qualified as a barrister. He was a pupil in chancery chambers in Lincoln's Inn before joining the ICSL in 1979.
He played an active part in the development of the original model Bar Vocational Course prior to its introduction in 1989, and has taught on the Course continuously since then. In addition to teaching on the Bar Vocational Course, from 1989 until 1996 he had overall administrative responsibility for the "old-style" Bar Examination (which was provided by the Law School as an alternative route to qualifying as a barrister for those who did not intend to practise in England and Wales). More recently, he has drawn upon this experience in his current role as Deputy Director of Assessments, with special responsibility for moderation and mitigating circumstances.
Over the years, Lawrence has taught a wide range of subjects, both for the Bar Examination and the Bar Vocational Course. Currently, he specialises in Opinion Writing and Drafting, Evidence, Civil Litigation and Advocacy and Revenue Law. He is subject co-ordinator for Drafting, and was recently appointed a Large Group Leader.
