Keith Simpson

Keith Simpson joined The City Law School (formerly the Inns of Court School of Law) in 1997. He spent 10 years working as an elected trade union official for the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers [RMT]. He was a frequent advocate at disciplinary hearings, Employment, Medical Appeal and Social Security Appeal Tribunals. He negotiated on behalf of the Union at local, regional and national level and lectured on behalf of the Union and the TUC.

Keith left the RMT in 1993 to train as a barrister and was called to the Bar in 1995. Keith joined 2 Gray's Inn Square as a pupil and continued as a tenant and door tenant until 2009. He practised largely in the fields of crime and employment law.

He has a Masters degree in Criminology and maintains his interest in this area, teaching on the LLM in Criminal Litigation. Keith teaches Criminal Advocacy on the BPTC. He is the Co-ordinator of the CLS Pupillage Advice Service. Keith is committed to widening access to the Bar and was formerly the CLS Director of Equality & Diversity. He continues to work closely with a variety of support groups at the Bar who are also committed to widening access to the Bar and promoting diversity.

At present Keith divides his time between teaching at The City Law School and working as the President of City University UCU (University & College Union)
