Catherine Joined The City Law School (formerly the Inns of Court School of Law) in 1998.Catherine graduated with a degree in English Literature & Philosophy. After a period working at Butterworths Law Publisher as sub-editor of Halsbury's Statutes, she completed the Diploma in Law and Bar Vocational Course.
She was called to the Bar in 1990. Catherine practised from the Chambers of Desmond de Silva QC for 8 years. Her practice was predominantly criminal defence, appearing in murder, rape, kidnap, importation (people and drugs), robbery, serious fraud cases and so on. Her practice was largely Crown Court and Court of Appeal and she has been instructed as junior counsel in the House of Lords and the Privy Council.
Catherine currently teaches Criminal and Civil Advocacy, Conference Skills and Negotiation. She has also taught Criminal Litigation, Advanced Criminal Litigation, and has trained solicitors for the rights of Audience (Higher) qualification.
Catherine is the Co-ordinator of Criminal Advocacy at the School. She is a member of the Criminal Bar Association and the South Eastern Circuit and maintains a door tenancy.
