Dr. Carmen Draghici joined The City Law School in September 2009. She currently teaches Family and Child Law and Human Rights Law on the LLB course, and European Union Law on the Graduate Diploma in Law. She will also be part of the teaching team of City's new LLM in Public International Law starting in 2012-2013. She was appointed Deputy Director of the Law School's undergraduate programme in 2011. She also collaborates with the Open University of Catalonia (Barcelona) as a lecturer in Public International Law (since 2009), and is a member of the Centre for Child and Family Law Reform.
Carmen's main research interests include various aspects of the practice of the European Convention on Human Rights, the impact of domestic and international counter-terrorism on fundamental rights, and the responsibility of States and international organisations. Carmen's doctoral dissertation, for which she received a PhD degree in International Law and Human Rights from the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' in 2007, explored the international protection of family rights in Europe.
As a Leverhulme Visiting Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre on Human Rights in Conflict, School of Law, University of East London (2008), she carried out extensive research on the 'global war on terror'. She has contributed articles and chapters to UK and international journals and edited volumes, and is currently reworking her doctoral thesis into a monograph.
