Barbara Schofield

Director, BA Journalism and Contemporary History 

Barbara Schofield is course director of the BA Journalism and Contemporary History. She  read English at Sussex University and studied Broadcast Journalism at postgraduate level at the London College of Printing, before beginning her journalism career in BBC Local Radio.

 

As a reporter for the London station Capital FM she won a Sony Award for an undercover report on army activity in Northern Ireland. On joining the BBC, she graduated from news journalism (Bulletins Editor in the BBC Newsroom) to documentary and feature making, notably for The Learning Curve and Mediumwave (BBC Radio 4).

 

After two academic years as Senior Broadcast Journalism Lecturer at the London College of Printing, she co-managed the independent broadcast production company Partners in Sound. Her series Music and Science Fiction for BBC Radio 3 won the BT Technology Broadcasting Award.

 

She launched a unique radio project at HMP Wandsworth in south London
