To highlight the importance of cultural and political context in the conduct of journalism.

Module aims

  • to promote a critical awareness of the range of cultural/political milieu in which journalists in Britain work
  • to reveal how concepts such as censorship, news management and propaganda affect journalism

Assessment and credit

10 credits

The module is compulsory for students on the MA in Journalism (pathways in Broadcast Journalism, Magazine Journalism, Newspaper Journalism, Science Journalism, Investigative Journalism and Television Current Affairs Journalism).

The module is assessed by coursework only.
