Pre-sessional English
City University London's Pre-sessional English language courses are delivered though the University's joint venture INTO City University London. They are intended to ensure that a student's English language is of the required level to cope with the learning demands of a degree at City University London.
The INTO City University London centre is based in a brand new building close to Liverpool Street Station (a short bus ride from City University London) and provides high quality teaching programmes, underpinned by excellent student support services.
Students who do not currently meet the University's English Language Requirements
Pre-sessional courses are available as 4, 8 and 12 week programmes, and run from late June to early September - depending on language level and degree programme offer requirements. To secure a place on the Pre-sessional English course you must have a valid IELTS test result (or an equivalent TOEFL or other UKBA-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) score recognised by the University), and a conditional offer of a place at the University. The Pre-sessional course you need to attend is dependent upon the IELTS or other test score you have already obtained and the degree programme for which you have a conditional offer to study. Details of IELTS requirements by School and programme and the relevant pre-sessional courses is available here. Once a student has booked a place on the appropriate pre-sessional course you will be deemed to have met the English language condition of your offer. Information on applying for a visas and using a CAS.
Please note attendance on a Pre-sessional English language course does not automatically guarantee progression to your degree course. The pre-sessional course has been designed so that students meet the required level and we therefore expect you to progress. To ensure this is the case you will be formally assessed towards the end of your pre-sessional course and will be required to obtain the specified score in order to meet the entry requirements and progress to the degree programme for which you have a conditional offer, If you do not meet the required score your offer on the degree course will be withdrawn and we will be required to inform the UKBA of this. We will however provide you with guidance on alternative study options.
Students who have met the University's English Language Requirements
Students who have the obtained the required IELTS (or equivalent TOEFL or other UKBA-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) and therefore meet the University's English language requirements may still wish to attend a pre-sessional course in order to further prepare them for study at the University and to assist students' integration into the British social and academic environment. All students, irrespective of their degree programme and including courses at Cass Business School, can attend a pre-sessional English language course.
