One-Year Placements
One-year placements are the most popular form of work based learning at City. Our dedicated team of placement specialists, the PLU, works hard to ensure that students are supported in the process of securing and completing a placement.
How does it work?

One-year placements commence after the successful completion of the second year of study.

Placement students will then undertake a period of work lasting between nine and twelve months between the second and final years of study.

After your placement you will return to university to complete your final year of study
Where can students complete a placement?
Placements can take place anywhere in the world, providing the work contains a suitable IT component. The PLU has developed an excellent reputation with a wide range of organisations, both large and small, across many sectors including:

How does the PLU support placements?
The PLU offers support and advice to students throughout the placement process.

The PLU proactively sources exclusive placement opportunities with a large range of employers specifically for our students

The unit delivers a Professional Development in IT module which is designed to support your professional development and enhance your employability in preparation for undertaking a placement

We offer personalised advice and guidance for students making applications and attending interviews for placements

Whilst on placement, students receive regular visits from a work-based learning advisors (WLA) who provides full support in helping you maximise your achievements during your placement
