Information for Employers
The Professional Liaison Unit (PLU) has been placing students with a range of employers for over 15 years. We aim to provide a bespoke and comprehensive service to employers seeking to offer short to long term work experience to those studying at City.
Types of placement
At City we offer three main pathways in which a student can undertake some form of accredited work-based learning.
-
One-year sandwich placements - Undergraduates are encouraged to complete a one year placement as part of their course.
-
Professional Pathway Scheme - Unique to City, this initiative allows an undergraduate to work for up to four days a week whilst completing their degree.
-
Postgraduate internship scheme - Postgraduate students are encouraged to complete an internship as part of their dissertation. Our Information for Internship Providers document gives the basics of the scheme.
The PLU is always keen to hear from employers that are interested in discussing alternative pathways for students to undertake an internship or placement.
Advertising your opportunities
The PLU has a very strong relationship with students currently studying at City. We have a number of ways in which we can advertise your vacancies and ensuring that you get the best quality applications.
If you would be interested in advertising your placement then please contact the PLU to discuss how we can help promote your opportunity.
How the PLU supports placements
The PLU supports students and employers throughout the placement to make sure that both parties are benefiting effectively from the experience. Each placement student is assigned a work-based learning advisor (WLA) who will provide assistance throughout the duration of the placement by visiting the workplace and ensuring that both the student and placement provider are meeting the pre-agreed deliverables.
